The Yemeni parliament canceled all previous agreements and  signed by the fugitive Hadi government with the United Arab Emirates on the Yemeni island of Socotra, which the Council considered under occupation.

The council, chaired by Yahya al-Ra’i, held a session of the council at its headquarters in Sana’a on Wednesday, described as aggression on Socotra Island.

“Any acts or agreements outside the framework of the Constitution and the laws in force that affect the sovereignty and territory of the Republic of Yemen” the council said, .

The Council also recommended “to engage with the international community in general and UNESCO in particular to preserve the island as it was drawn up and planned nationally and globally to preserve the world’s unique biodiversity and sustainable development that preserves the right of national, regional and global generations to live in a unique and appropriate environment.”

The council also called upon the Sana’a government to “move through Arab and international environmental organizations, as well as countries keen on international peace and security, to pressure the UAE forces to stop tampering with the nature of Socotra Island as one of the most important nature reserves in the world.”

The UAE is accused of looting botanical, marine and rare birds from the island of Socotra, while sources say that Hadi signed an agreement with the UAE puts the island at the disposal of the last 99 years.
